Dealing with Anxiety and Stress

Everyone is seeking some form of anxiety and stress relief. Hopefully you were not self-medicate with alcohol. Rather than applying a balm for stress ulcer, why not find a way to stop the stress of getting out of hand first. I take medicine preventive medicine reactive any day.

An effective approach to relief of anxiety and stress is getting to address the thought of your mind that is causing the stress. The entire field of cognitive psychology is devoted to this approach. Thus, a defective type of thinking that can lead to stress, anxiety and depression is not all-or-nothing thinking.

What is all-or-think of nothing? It goes like this: Someone who suffers from this type of erroneous thinking always look things in black and white, etc., good or bad, right or wrong, if you participate in this kind of analysis of your life, you are you setting yourself up for a lot of grief. Now this thinking by correcting May not happen overnight. But if you become aware of your all-or-think of nothing, then you can correct little by little and the anxiety and stress that you seek.

An example of this all-or-not thinks of anything. Let's say your stress level is the result of you not able to complete all tasks on your to-do list. I'm often guilty of this. I tend to be far too busy because there are so many things I want to do. I know I've gone too far when I start to get that knot in my throat and my anxiety level increases. This happened recently. In order to get the anxiety and stress relief I needed, I had to change my way of thinking.

Instead of two successes or failure on my to-do list for any given day, I should be ok with not completing everything on the list. But this does not work so well. I did not see things overlooked. This was the all-or-nothing thinking again. So I just made the to-do list smaller and it almost immediately. In fact, that night when I decided I could not do anything I wanted to do and had to settle for less, I could feel the knot in my throat curl up and disappear quietly.

This is a good example of great anxiety and stress by challenging faulty thinking. This is just one example of the anxiety and stress by challenging all or thinks about nothing. Another example might involve asking that you get an A on a test. Getting a B is not good enough. Again, you are setting yourself up a lot of grief if you think that way. Bring a little flexibility in your life and get relief from anxiety and stress you need.
